Heywood Generating Station

St. Catharines Hydro Generation Inc. owns and operates the Heywood Generating Station, located at the entranceway to the Port Dalhousie Harbour from Martindale Pond. The station is named after the project champion and inspiration, Mr. Stan Heywood and was built in 1988, becoming commercially operational in the spring of 1989. It was built beside an existing control structure formerly owned by Ontario Hydro. This control structure together with two new Escher-Wyse water turbines, form what is called the Heywood Generating Station. The Heywood G.S generates approximately 6.5 MW of electricity utilizing water flowing from the 12 Mile Creek and Martindale pond, itself originating from the OPG Decew Power Station.
