Job Title: General Manager

Overview

St. Catharines Hydro Inc., is wholly owned by The Corporation of the City of St. Catharines, and is the Holding Company for subsidiary St. Catharines Hydro Generation Inc. and a shareholder in Alectra Inc.. Alectra Inc. subsidiary Alectra Utilities Inc., is the second largest electricity distribution company in Ontario, serving customers in the St. Catharines, Hamilton, Markham, Vaughan, Barrie and Mississauga areas.

St. Catharines Hydro Inc. is seeking expressions of interest to manage St. Catharines Hydro Inc. and its generation company. The position can be in the capacity of a General Manager or contracted through a management company that has the necessary experience and can provide the necessary services.

The position will have responsibility for the overall management of the holding company and the generating company. It will also have the responsibility of ensuring the proper safe operation and maintenance of the 6.2 MW Heywood hydroelectric generating facility, and manage the company's financial performance. The position will be reporting directly to the Company's Board of Directors.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring Health & Safety and environmental compliance, plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Asset management including planning and management of hydroelectric plant equipment installations and plant upgrades.
  • Management of subcontracted services for control room oversight, maintenance, and accounting services, and of the contractual and regulatory interfaces with the IESO, distributor, government agencies, OPG, and others.
  • Procurement of other required services, equipment and supplies.
  • Development and management of annual budgets, Five Year operating and capital plans, and annual Business Plan for Shareholder approval.
  • Preparation and issuance of Board Reports including monthly/quarterly financials, and attendance at Board of Directors meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience, and a minimum of ten (10) years of related progressive technical and supervisory experience.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of hydroelectric generating equipment and a good understanding of federal/provincial regulations, acts, licences and permits applicable to the operation of a hydroelectric facility.
  • Demonstration of competent management, human relation and technical skills and of participation in management/supervisory training development programs.
  • Good working knowledge of computer systems and applications, and familiarity with accounting and financial statements.
